Charon was the captain of Lyre Squad and the one who recruited Trigger into the squad. A notable harmonica player, she composed the song "Homecoming."

Profile

Charon was a soldier in the Eridu Defense Force Chrysoberyl Division, and the captain of Lyre Squad. She was a skilled harmonica player and taught Trigger how to play the instrument. The codename "Charon" was temporarily donned by Trigger during her first encounter with Phaethon.[1]

History

As the captain of Lyre Squad, Charon brought a shy rookie sniper named Phlegethon on board. Despite the sniper's codename maintaining stylistic consistency with the rest of the squad, it was deemed rather cumbersome to pronounce, and Charon later changed her codename to Trigger.[2] Over the span of a thousand days, Charon taught Trigger how to play the harmonica, watched hone her combat skills, and grow from a shy kid who blushed whenever someone spoke to a skilled sniper that cared for all her squadmates, albeit a little too much. Charon noticed how each time one of them got hurt, Trigger seemed to be on the verge of breaking down, and believed the squad's motto "Having each other's backs" was becoming a burden for the sniper. In an audio message she recorded with the rest of Lyre Squad, Charon told Trigger to not bear everything alone and to start relying and fully entrusting her vulnerable side to them. She ended the message by playing a song she had composed for the squad as a gift to the sniper, her masterpiece: "Homecoming." This message would not be heard by Trigger until years after the fall of Eridu.[1]

Lyre Squad was one of the squads chosen to suppress the suddenly expanding Hollow Zero, which was then thought to be a normal disaster. Though they were promised reinforcements, the rapid expansion led to all retreating as the soldiers within did their best to survive the onslaught of Ethereals. Charon and her squad did their best to defend Trigger, who had been blinded by an Etheric shot to the eyes, but with the injuries and corruption they had all sustained, it was futile. Upon seeing the retreating Grim Vulture of Nemesis Squad, they ordered her to rescue Trigger whilst they held the line. Charon and the rest of Lyre Squad were killed by Nineveh.[1] Charon's only surviving belongings were her harmonica and the sheet music of her masterpiece.[3]

Charon's legacy would serve crucial to Trigger's future. Her harmonica and song had her fate intertwine with those of a then-rookie Phaethon, the former then protecting the blind sniper from a potentially lethal gunshot whilst fighting her savior, and led to her return to the Defense Force and subsequent joining of Obol Squad.[1]
