Lerna is an NPC who appears in the Character Teaser "Rise of the Void Hunter." It was a massive Ethereal that dwelled inside the Argos Hollow.

Profile

Lerna was an abnormal symbiotic Ethereal found inside the Argos Hollow. It had the ability to create numerous decoy "cores" around itself, making attacks futile against all but the true core.

When Argos began to suddenly expand, threatening nearby civilian centers, New Eridu's authorities aimed to slay Lerna to force the Hollow to shrink. Though New Eridu Public Security, the Hollow Investigative Association, and H.A.N.D. launched multiple assaults on the monster, it thwarted each attack using its false cores.

Faced with the destruction of its assets, a TOPS consultant recommended detonation of the partially-consumed Shiyu Pillar No.7, which could theoretically destroy the Hollow at the cost of the 208 people who were trapped within. However, H.A.N.D. Executive Officer Hoshimi Miyabi turned down this plan, instead diving into the Hollow to face Lerna alone. She managed to singlehandedly slay Lerna by destroying all of its cores in under three minutes. This courageous act rewarded Miyabi with the title of Void Hunter and led to the creation of Hollow Special Operations Section 6.^[1]

Etymology

• Lerna is the name of a region located south of Argos. It is famously known as the lair of the Lernaean Hydra, a serpentine monster in Greek and Roman mythology. When the Hydra lost a head, two more grew in its place, much like how Lerna created multiple fake cores after being attacked, and it too required cutting off all the heads as quickly as possible to be defeated.
